2009 Teleconference Series
Survivor probably has its own unique meaning for you. Since the day the doctor said the word “cancer”, you and your family have become survivors. Despite the fact that medical advances have drastically increased survival rates, cancer and the treatment may have affected you in ways that may or may not be physically visible. This series of teleconferences will address issues that may occur during treatment and after treatment ends.
Childhood cancer survivors, parents, social workers, nurses and others involved in the care of children with cancer are invited to learn more about these issues. The dates, topics and presenters are listed below.
Teleconference FAQ's
Continuing Education for Nurses
Goal:
By participating in this series of teleconferences, nurses will be educated on the importance of introducing education about late complication of therapy early in treatment at diagnosis, continuing in the months after treatment and during every survivor’s clinic to empower them to take charge and advocate for the lifelong impact of childhood cancer diagnosis.
Nursing Contact Hours:
One (1) contact hour will be awarded per session for a total of six (6) for the completion of the entire series.
In order to receive the contact hours provided, the participant must register and participate in the entire conference as verified by a report generated by teleconferencing service (if multiple listeners are participating at one site, a moderator should submit a sign-in sheet with evaluations) and the evaluation should be completed legibly, signed and returned within 45 days after the program.
Target Audience:
Nurses involved in the treatment of children diagnosed with cancer.
The National Children’s Cancer Society is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Missouri Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Social workers interested in continuing education units should consult with their local licensing board to determine if they will honor nursing contact hours for N.C.C.S. programs that pertain to social workers. If they will, please request credit hours from the N.C.C.S. when registering for this event.
