The Perfect Pet for a Child in Cancer Treatment

Webkinz® are riding high in popularity with kids these days, and it's no wonder. In addition to being cute and cuddly, they offer children the opportunity to join the Webkinz website and officially "adopt" their pet.  It's the perfect pet for a child diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment. The website helps children develop good nurturing skills because they actually have to care for their pets.

Once they finalize the adoption by entering the pet's secret code—which is on its tag—they name it and are given a room and money to spend to furnish it. There are Happy, Healthy and Hunger meters which can be kept at high, favorable levels by playing with the pet and feeding and caring for it. The site offers an online community where kids can be kids and interact with other Webkinz "parents."   They can even play games to earn money to buy toys, houses and clothes for their pets. This is a great way for children who feel the isolation of treatment to play with other children without their cancer getting in the way. There are also areas where parents can monitor their child's activities.

For a minimum donation of $20, you can give a Webkinz pet to a child undergoing treatment for cancer. Each Webkinz will be delivered in a gift box with a special gift card letting the lucky recipient know that the Webkinz was adopted especially for them!
